Turning up at the demolition site in Horwich Lancashire
Well the Landy's here, so Fred must be about somewhere. And that must be the
"Chimney" that will soon be no more.
You can see already Fred has been hard at work.
Over the past three days this rather "Posh Marque" has been erected,
with soft carpets and posh toilets it looks like there's going to be a party
(while we wallow in the mud !!.

A sizeable chunk has been removed form the base of the chimney, Fred is
checking to see how much it has moved, and what way |
Always checking the progress and movement of the chimney, Checking goes way
into the twighlight hours. due to very strong wings |
Taking out more of this, 1 Meter thick chimney, to be sure to drop it in just
the right place
Its Time to start piling on the wood, In fact there was so much of it, this
process alone took three hours
A Final check and it's back to the site hut for a warm Cuppa Tea and a chat
about the days events. One thing you can be assured of in Lancashire, Is a very
warm welcome. from the friendliest of people.
After a hard days work, a fireside chat with
all the crew, rounds the day of well
Its early the
next day and Fred is taking a final check on the chimney. |
Soaking the telegraph poles (sticks as Fred calls them) with diesel oil, A fire
is already alight inside the chimney, this causes a strong updraft to get the
real fire going on the outside,
Its time to light the fire, This chimney, that has stood for a 100 years is
about to fall to its feet, There is a certain sadness creeping in
Pinned into the opposite
side of the chimney, this lever system give a very good guide to when the
chimney is going to fall. |
The last
picture we can give you of this grand old Lady and all who must have worked
hard to build her.

What
can we say, it fell exactly where he said it would Watching this one a once in
a lifetime experience,
Thanks Fred. |
