The
Dax Rush
Another fine Dax
Rush arrives with some problems.
In this instance (and its a common one) the car would not start. when Hot,
plus was lacking a little Zest.
The problem was soon traced to its aged Rover igntion system Giving
problems and was subsequently replaced with our distributoer and unique Spark
Amplifier. allong with some high quality Magnacor leads.

Customer comment
Hi Chris, Thanks for your time last Friday afternoon, it was greatly
appreciated. If you remember you listened to the engine in my kit car and
instantly recognised a problem with the distributor, as it was still the
original, which apparently has known problems. You recommended that we change
the distributor and electronic power amp, as this would solve the problem of
the engine not starting when hot. This you fitted on the spot. At the time you
asked if I could let you know if this had indeed solved the problem, which it
certainly seems to have done.
Thank you once again, and I will be paying another visit to your premises in
the near future, to discuss the Weber Carburetter option you mentioned to me,
which you felt would help with the rough running of the engine, with the
current and original twin SU setup. Kind Regards
Black Dax

But no problem, a Mallory Unalite,
some new Magnecor leads and the correct advance setting from the weber and its
time to fly back home. |

Arrival of Another Dax Rush
This vehicle was never going to give what was needed unless it got some serious
attention from us at RPi. After long and protracted phone conversation with the
customer, with the goal to achieving the best from his own rebuilt engine, it
was decided a trip to see us would ensure his best attention. The first job was
to re-configure the Mallory dual-point distributor with the correct amount of
ignition advance, and along with some other minor adjustments, this vehicle
became a very serious performer. Whilst it was in bits, a helical groove was
cut into the distributor shaft to discourage oil from creeping up and out of
the oil seal at the top. |
|
The main problems found with regards to
reliability were worn Rockers and Shafts (these would have been seriously
detrimental to his engines long life), and the problems with running were due
to poor exhaust port matching and wrong vacuum advance setting. We port-matched
the exhaust headers to the stage 2 heads and replaced the rockers & shafts.
A full mixture and timing tune-up followed. Regards,

Heading Home, Duncan and his V8 Dax Rush IRS
Thanks for the advice and the good job you
did setting up my V8 Dax Rush yesterday. The drive home demonstrated how much
improved it now is. The best part is the nice smooth idle and the low-speed
drive-ability. It now ticks over with no lumpiness and doesn't cause
transmission backlash when pottering round town. It sounds like a V8 at idle
should do. I can now floor the throttle in 5th at 30mph without getting any
hesitation pick-up. 60mph comes up 6 seconds later! |
|
Although the mid-range punch doesn't
subjectively feel much more than it was, the numbers do seem to come up
quicker. This is probably due to the increased smoothness of the engine.
It cost about ten pounds in petrol to get to RPi, doing 60mph on
dual-carriageways for maximum economy. On the trip home I used the country
lanes and wasn't gentle with the throttle. Despite being a longer trip, only
about eight pounds' worth of fuel were used. The extra economy makes me happier
about long journeys to show the Dax off to friends and family! Thanks again. Regards, Duncan
V8 Dax Rush IRS PS.Since then, the Dax has been
on the race track at the Donington Park kitcar show and has covered another 500
faultless miles.
