RPi Engineering in the year of 2005 were approached by Luke Bennett of Bennett racing for some items from our new online shop for his Drag Car. After talking with Luke a few times it was clear that himself and his family were all 100% into Drag racing including his father who races a Topolino. So RPi decided to build a 4.6 litre Stage 3 engine, with 600 cfm 4 barrel carb and had some very special exhaust headers made.

Below are just a few pictures and a copy of an email from Luke. Coming soon we will have more pictures and video of this fantastic 23T Drag Rail.

We set off for the track about 7am Saturday morning, when we arrived and got out we felt the lovely wind that cut right through anyone who was there will know it was cold think with the wind chill it was minus 2. Set the gazebo up and got all the bits and pieces out of the lorry but left the car inside as we still had a few bits to do and thought it best to do it in the warm! For the eagle eyed out there you will have noticed that the car was not totally done, I still need to paint the wing struts and the wheelie bars and plumb in the gauges other than that pretty much done, oh and I still want to get the dash anodised. We got the car out and sheeted up about 6pm Saturday night and then sorted dinner watched some tele and went to bed.

Got up Sunday and only thing we had to do was bleed the clutch who I owe my younger brother a big favour as he brought a nice big bottle of brake fluid up for me! Thanks. Once that was done we fired the car up and it sounded sweet and I must say didn't sound like any Rover iv heard, we didn't worry about adjusting float bowls and doing timing accurate as I wasn't going to go and try and set records I just wanted to get used to the cars handling.

Soon as the motor had heat in it we towed down and I had the first run, which was a 13.6 I think at 71mph, but the track was slippery and as Sharkman has caught in one of his photos the arse end was so skittish every time I touched the throttle, but all was well and I was happy so as soon as motor had cooled down we went for another run, this time a lot harder launch still only at about 3000rpm and it had wheel spin off the line and even abit of tyre shake which made me laugh! But it did run 94mph at the 1/8th so there is definitely a low 10 in the car.

Then last run was at about 4:30pm and the track was dead, soon as I touched the throttle it was everywhere so I listened to my old mans advice and was off it and cruised through to a 14.5, there is always another race...overall had an excellent weekend and got to grips with the car abit better, and found that it definitely handles like an altered should.

Also thanks again to all of Bennett Racings sponsors as with out there help id still be building the car in my garage.
